People complain about a housing crisis. Blame gets put on their avocado or latte abuse..
Really we should be looking at the banks... Lending fake money then charging crazy interest... The big four Australian banks clear 13 million profit (after tax) EACH DAY!
    That's $570,000 an hour...
The system is broken.. buckle up NZ for more rates/ interest rises.
An investigation was done (by the banks) they said na it's all good nothing to see here.. little old NZ went back to sleep.
Fractional reserve banking that's real gangster.

Why don't you move to a socialist country Tao? Vietnam or the state of Kerala in India - tropical socialism. Affordable, abundant fresh food, water and housing.

Martin Rumsby is it better to give up and move to other places when your place isn’t to your standard? I would argue it is more courageous to stay and try to make your place better. NZ could be an awesome socialist country, we just have to fight for it. To do nothing is to be a pussy hahaha

Martin Rumsby can't tell if you are being comedic... Kiwis giving away 13 million a day to Australia that could be going to hospitals or teachers here and the only thing you can say is toxic capitalism is the price we have to pay to live here of u don't like tbe system then leave??
Why don't we just change the system. So odd...

Michael King Because New Zealanders refuse to take advantage of the freedom that we do actually have to take on the responsibility of inolving ourselves in asserting our power through democratically run organisations to defend our interests, we are owned and we are exploited.
Our political class are enslaved agents of the corporatocracy who make up the status quo and it is their role to ensure that there is no interruption to the business as usual paradigm.
Obviously, a goverment that was actually working in the interests of our remote island nation would be priotising our capability for us to function as such, ridding ourselves of dependence and vulnerabity to such predation and having complete control of the banking sector would be a good place to start .

Is NZ worth it? Will it change? No. Even the arts scene - not much more then a 19th century colonial sewer. Those kiwis who have done best have excelled elsewhere. Awful climate, repressive society - the list goes on

  • Wells Tao
Martin Rumsby ah yes the done best have excelled elsewhere racket... how we all cling to our dreams

  • Michael King
Martin Rumsby sounds like you don't like it here maybe you should move 🙃
But seriously yes the arts are ....a sewer as you put it.. maybe the money we give to Australia we could spend here... If Kiwis were not so broke with everyday hustle maybe they could go out more support the Arts. And Yes New Zealand is definitely worth it x 🥰🤝🙏

Well those who excelled.in Kiwiland .... Say, like Watties - sold out. But seriously, Len Lye could never have made his work in NZ and his best stuff was not even made in England. He had to go further to excell. That's a plain fact. NZ had been quite socialist once but it has been pegged back. Fletcher's got the contract to build the first state houses - since moved on to become a multinational with some contentious overseas holdings (Forests in British Columbia). The old farmer's co-ops morphed into Fonterra which pollutes the environment and rips kiwis off. The arts scene I criticize is the managerial culture - safe, conservative and boring. Top down rule - indeed, they are afraid of genuinely artist run initiatives, they look down on such doings. Top down rule is the first thing that has to go. But it won't. The only place it is going is to the weekend beach. My dreams are visions bestowed upon me by the Mandate of Heaven. If all else fails move closer to the equator.

In fact, in giving the state house contract to Fletcher's, the first Labour govt made Fletcher's. Indeed, do you remember before the last World Rugby Cup on NZ, Labour - Trevor Mallard, I think, announced a plan to build a new stadium on Auckland,'s waterfront and stated quite plainly that Fletcher's would build it - there would be no tendering for the contract. The problems run much deeper than Aussie banks which are.merely just a symptom.

yes we have a culture that perpetuates a status quo, out here, you're talking to someone who doesn't support the status quo bud. Lye is mainstream capitalist art, you know it, I know it. Still cool, of course cool, but seriously, who cares about capitalist art? I fucking don't. At the end of the day, if you're serious about doing something actually new, you'll start with not being a capitalist, not even a mere accidental perpetrator. So... there's that. eh..

  • Martin Rumsby
Lye has been co-opted - Fitzroy Engineering probably does quite well out of producing his sculptures. Shell/Todd (frackers) invest in the institutionalization of Len Lye. The guy himself never had much money until he married a real estate agent relatively late in his life.

Martin Rumsby in my book, if you can't separate your economy visibly from the status quo, no matter how cool you are, you end up perpetuating the status quo. Read'm and weep.

Even the Hanson Bros had to leave to build their magazine up - I believe the arts council declined to fund them. In my own On experience in NZ I encountered.modtly abuse, bullying or indifference. Theo Schoon would have said the same.

    Wells Tao
Martin Rumsby nah, man don't believe the hype! Yes there are real cases of abuse and manufactured marginalization, but there also the plain delusional, and the ignorant. Great artists, the above, I agree. But crucified for a variety of legit reasons, as well as illegit.

  • Wells Tao
Basically failed to get their shit together, despite the circumstances. It's a familiar trope..

    • Martin Rumsby
All good. I have been happier since I left NZ - most of the problems I have had since leaving have emanated from Kiwiland Kultural Kunts

I forget how uncomfortable I am being liked. Part accidental conditioning, part plan, part consequence.
