    • Wells Tao Wells Tao Art Galleries with their white walls, I think practice what they would call an "unconscious bias" but I would call more like a conscious nationalistic fascist thuggery, racism in it's overall dominance as a 'back drop' to art works. While aesthetically I am greatly attracted to this practice, I only need to remember my avant-garde socialist training in the arts, through the cream of NZ Early education in the arts, primary, intermediate, high school, university.

(That art is a part of culture and culture has both a local and international context, that white walls are meant to indicate, but can not stand for. And they've been made to stand for, as if the white wall was a human golden crown, effecting us all with it's seal of approval. Clean, scientific, clear. The future of us all separated so we could get a glimpse, in all the chaos of the bits that reveal the fractal pattern of where you fit. A tautology where roles are equal so reversible. This is as real as it needs to be, where I trade with you a construct that is not me, but a role I understand how to pley. The practice of public universities, and public art galleries is that they have stupidly said that while we'll acknowledge our power to abuse the ability of erasing context and manufacturing greatness, in this glamour manufacturer of approved culture, these walls will remain white, 95% of the time, cause we rule. We will also refuse to alter any of our practices, other than for a selected manority of "challengers' who will be accepted cause they fit the ticket. It's white walls all round boys, watch me give the ol baby a twirl, see how she sparkles, it's as if Apollo it self was set to a dancing like a white skip over the Blue Nile, and we stare into the sun, long enough to smell smoke)

I've got top dog for different reasons in each of these arena's but I've been knocked out of subservient passive dominance into a realm of language, combat by black and white words, said in time, meaning particular ideas. As stupid as I am, I've taken on 'opposition' in the media and publicly and personally, and wiped the floor with them, with my self, embarrassingly so, like I've had to help them off the floor for eating their own arses, while I talked through mine. And I do this with out the help of a raised I.Q or multi syllable'd words, but timing. Timing and knowing what the fuck I was doing. Feeling it in my bones, in every fiber of my being. Always up for learning and finding out who is right. I love changing my story, my pleasure is greatly attached to the power I've associated with the proximity of relative truth to ones own path.

(The above is a show of protest, against Facebook ruling that a picture showing the breasts of writer Eve Babits as she is photographed playing chess with Duchamp (often seen through the glass of the work, "Large Glass'.) is not allowed, and they even went so far as to suggest that there was a person involved and that their one complaint meant that I was on trial, in a trial where I could only accept guilty or loose my access. I mean how many levels of Irony can exist and for someone not get mad at a supid response? ) Fuck you Facebook

  • Wells Tao Chris Kraus : Wait do you have a closing statement?

Tao Wells : no, not really, Oh: "It's not the white, it's not a white cube kind of, I'm not a white cube kind of guy, I don't think you can be a white cube guy if you are an immigrant." Thats a

    Chris: Jorge Pardo, yeah

    Tao: from your book

    Chris: Jorge Pardo

Audience: you still have ten minutes

Tao: we've still got ten minutes

Chris: Oh, we still have ten minutes, ok great. Yeah so Jorge Pardo

Tao: yeah, ok I could relate to that, I'm an immigrant and being an immigrant you don't (immediately) identify with the nationalism propaganda, advertising, the every day existence of this single body that you have to belong to and I find that there is a huge correlation between the asceticism of the clean white cube and the national fever, the abstract singular mono conception of an identity, there seems to be a correlation, not just those, but the extremism.

Because I belong to at least two cultures that I know of, I'm an American as well.
